The General Presidency of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque Affairs announced on SaudiOn Wednesday, the work on the third expansion of the Great Mosque of Makkah in the history of the Holy Places will be resumed, after a pause of nearly two months imposed by the procedures to confront the Corona virus.

“Based on the generous order to allow construction companies to carry out their activities, the presidency issues licenses for the works of the third Saudi expansion projects,” the presidency said on its Twitter site.

The presidency published photos documenting part of the expansion projects, which include several sites in the Holy Mosque of Mecca and its surroundings.

On March 25 last year, the presidency announced the closure of the third Saudi expansion, in conjunction with a series of countermeasures SkAmong them, the closure of the Two Holy Mosques in front of worshipers, visitors and Umrah performers, the complete suspension of Umrah, and the limitation of prayers in the Two Holy Mosques to their imams and a limited number of workers, in conjunction with the suspension of all the country’s mosques.

Saudi Arabia started the third expansion project during the reign of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in 2008, and it is the largest expansion of the Great Mosque of Mecca through the ages, and work has been ongoing since then on its multiple projects.

The expansion projects that have been accomplished a lot during the past years include: the main expansion building of the Grand Mosque, the expansion of the previously opened endeavor, the expansion of the road and the external squares, bridges and terraces, the complex of central service buildings, service tunnels, security buildings, the hospital, pedestrian tunnels, transport stations and bridges Leading to the Haram, the first ring road surrounding the Sacred Mosque area, and the infrastructure, including: power stations, water tanks, and torrential drainage.
