Two Expats Sentenced To Jail, Deportation By Saudi Court
Category: Crime News

Local media reported that Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Commerce named two expats who were convicted of commercial fraud and sentenced to three months each in prison and deportation.

It is alleged that the pair turned their residence into a warehouse for rotten meat and foods of unknown origin in violation of the kingdom's anti-commercial fraud law, Okaz said.

Both defendants, an Indian and a Bangladeshi, are ordered by a court in Sakaka in north-western Saudi Arabia to pay an unspecified fine, deported from the kingdom, barred from returning and named to shame in at least two local newspapers for their actions. Food products seized by the court were also ordered destroyed.

According to the report, rotten meat, poultry, and fish unfit for human consumption were found at their residence in Jouf province in north-western Saudi Arabia.

Commercial fraud in Saudi Arabia is punishable by up to three years in prison or a maximum fine of SR1 million, or both. Foreigners who are convicted of crimes are also deported and named to shame.
