To Curb Divorce Rates, A Writer Proposes A 'divorce Tax'

To curb Saudi Arabia's high divorce rates, a writer proposes levying a 'divorce tax' on separations.
Talal Al Gashgari argued in an article entitled We need a divorce tax that revenue from the proposed tax should go to support people planning to get married.
There is a divorce case every 10 minutes, he wrote in the Saudi newspaper Al Madina. "While you use your mobile or iPad, a married couple somewhere in our country is getting divorced for the first, second, or third time," Al Gashgari said.
As the writer suggested, the "divorce tax" should be exorbitant enough to make married couples think twice about divorce.
Whoever insists on divorce must pay the tax into a fund for those seeking marriage,” Al Gashgari wrote.
