A Syrian Airlines flight has landed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh for the first time in over 10 years, marking the resumption of regular air travel between Syria and Saudi Arabia.

The Riyadh Airports Company commemorated the event with a celebration attended by Ayman Soussan, the Syrian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and several Saudi air transport officials.

Soussan highlighted the significance of this event for both Syrians and Saudis, noting that it eliminates the need for indirect travel routes.

He emphasized that the return of regular flights between Syria and Saudi Arabia signifies further development in the relations between the two nations.

According to the French Press Agency, the Syrian Airlines plane arrived at 6:30 am Riyadh time on Wednesday, carrying 170 Syrian passengers. The two countries have agreed to operate one round-trip flight per week between Riyadh and Damascus.

This development follows the arrival of the first flight from Damascus to Jeddah, bringing pilgrims to the gateway of Makkah for the first time in over 12 years.

Suleiman Khalil, the Director of the Media Office at the Syrian Ministry of Transport, mentioned that there is potential for expanding Syrian Airlines’ destinations in Saudi Arabia to include Jeddah and Dammam, based on market demand.
