Introduction to the Road Network Development
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has awarded four significant road development contracts worth SR13 billion ($3.46 billion) as part of the first phase to enhance Riyadh's transport network. This initiative aligns with Vision 2030 to position Riyadh as a global city for sustainable transport and logistics.
Details of the First Phase Projects
Second Southern Ring Road Construction
This project covers a 56-kilometer stretch from the new Al-Kharj Road in the east to the Jeddah Road in the west. It includes four lanes in each direction for the main road, three lanes for service roads, and the construction of 32 bridges.
Wadi Laban Suspension Bridge Development
The project involves building two parallel bridges to the Wadi Laban Suspension Bridge and enhancing the western ring road intersection with Jeddah Road. This includes four bridges over a 4-kilometer stretch.
Al-Thumama Road Axis Development
This project focuses on the western part of Al-Thumama Road, covering six kilometers from King Khalid Road to King Fahd Road.
Taif Road Extension to Qiddiya
The extension of Taif Road in the Laban neighborhood to the Qiddiya project spans 16 kilometers, connecting the western end of Taif Road to the Qiddiya project.
Traffic Management During Construction
To minimize disruptions, the RCRC has developed a comprehensive traffic management plan in partnership with local authorities.
Future Phases and Long-Term Impact
The RCRC plans to announce contracts for subsequent phases soon, contributing to the development of over 500 kilometers of Riyadh's road network, with the first phase expected to take 3 to 4 years.
