According to Saudi media, a committee responsible for developing slum areas in Jeddah has started notifying residents in Al Montazahat district of their planned removal.
In the city, 32 slum neighbourhoods will be razed according to a timetable set by the committee.
During the run-up to the implementation of an executive scheme that was announced earlier, the panel said it will complete the notification process and disconnect services in the remaining districts..
The Jeddah authorities have denied rumours that the demolition of remaining slums in Jeddah will be postponed earlier this month.
In the city, 28 such districts have been demolished, and four remain.
During the past Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which ended in early Ramadan, slum demolitions in Jeddah were suspended.
In February, authorities resumed a phased plan to develop an area densely populated with slums in the holy city of Mecca, of which Jeddah is administratively a part, with the aim of eliminating visual disfigurement.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the removal of Al Nakasa, located around 1,500 metres from the Grand Mosque, was suspended for more than a year.
