Self Driving Buses Launched For Hassle Free Hajj Transportation
Category: Saudi Arabia

The Transport General Authority (TGA) in Saudi Arabia has introduced an innovative solution to simplify the transportation of pilgrims during Hajj season. In a groundbreaking move, self-driving shuttle buses are being deployed to offer cutting-edge technology for "human and environmentally friendly" transport.

As part of the TGA's commitment to providing diverse transportation options in Makkah, these self-driving buses will navigate predetermined routes using artificial intelligence, cameras, and sensors. By collecting and analyzing real-time data, these buses can operate autonomously without human intervention.

Each self-driving bus has a capacity of 11 passengers and can travel up to 6 hours on a single charge, reaching speeds of 30 km per hour. This not only enhances the overall passenger experience but also ensures utmost safety throughout the journey.

The primary objective of this service is to streamline pilgrims' travel, evaluate the practicality of utilizing self-driving technology during Hajj, and establish the necessary requirements for future commercial operations.

To facilitate the experiment, Track No. 6, spanning 4 km and measuring 11 m wide, has been selected as the designated route. This meticulous approach allows the TGA to explore various transportation options, embrace modern technology, and assess their suitability and contribution to ensuring a memorable and seamless transportation experience for all pilgrims.

By embracing these technological advancements, Saudi Arabia continues to lead the way in enhancing Hajj logistics, providing convenience, and ensuring pilgrims can perform their rituals with ease and confidence.
