Local media reported that Saudi Arabia would host an international competition for reciting the Holy Quran and calling on the faithful to pray. The prizes are estimated to be worth $12 million, according to local authorities.
Turki Al Sheikh, head of the kingdom's General Entertainment Authority, announced that registration for the second edition is underway.
Entrants must register on the website https://otrelkalam.com and upload audio recordings to be assessed by the jury.
The contestants who perform best will advance to the finals, which will be broadcast during Ramadan in late March.
Competition aims to highlight talented Quran reciters and prayer callers, as well as to introduce moderate Islam and diverse Islamic cultures to the world.
There were over 40,000 contestants from 80 countries registered for the first edition of the competition.
