Seven Years in Prison and Heavy Fines Imposed
The Kuwaiti Court of Cassation sentenced a Saudi national to seven years in prison with labor for fraudulently claiming Kuwaiti nationality and illegally obtaining financial benefits.
Massive Fine for Financial Misconduct
The court also ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 800,000 Kuwaiti dinars (Dh9.58 million). The penalties reflect the severity of the fraud, which enabled the defendant to access government benefits meant for Kuwaiti nationals.
Unlawful Employment and Salary Gains
The individual worked as a corporal in Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence from 1993 to 2020, falsely claiming to be related to a Kuwaiti citizen. His fraudulent identity enabled him to receive 253,000 dinars in salaries and an additional 16,000 dinars in bank loans.
Co-conspirators Sentenced in Absentia
The Court of First Instance previously sentenced the Saudi defendant and two accomplices—a Kuwaiti citizen and the father involved in the forgery—to seven years in prison. The co-conspirators were tried in absentia while the Saudi defendant was present.
Saudi-Kuwait Cooperation to Address the Case
Kuwait has coordinated with Saudi authorities and the Central Agency for Bedoon to manage the legal and identity issues arising from the fraudulent nationality claim.
