In a nation as passionate about cricket as India, the prospect of Saudi Arabia venturing into the world of sports is an exciting development. The country has been actively participating in politics and business while also hosting significant sports events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix and purchasing Newcastle United. Recently, Saudi Arabia signed renowned footballer Cristiano Ronaldo for the Al Nassr Club. Now, the country is looking to enter the realm of cricket by offering to host the world's wealthiest T20 League.

Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), envisions a growing role for Saudi Arabia in cricket. He believes this partnership will generate new opportunities for cricket in Saudi Arabia and strengthen the sport in the region. Currently, the BCCI prohibits Indian players from participating in international leagues. However, a proposal from the Saudi Arabian government to establish a new T20 league could prompt the BCCI to reconsider this policy.

International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay has confirmed Saudi Arabia's interest in cricket, stating that the sport would likely appeal to the country given its expanding involvement in various sports. Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation Chairman Prince Saud Bin Mishal Al-Saud expressed the aim to create a sustainable industry for locals and expats living in the kingdom, turning Saudi Arabia into a global cricketing destination.

In recent times, Saudi government and business officials have been engaging with India's cricketing circles, seeking to involve the IPL owners and the BCCI in their planned T20 league, which would rival the IPL financially.

By 2029, Saudi Arabia aims to be India's top tourist destination. As an associate member of the International Cricket Council, the kingdom supports local men's and women's cricket programs. Pakistan cricket has also shown interest in collaborating with Saudi Arabia, with former captain Wasim Akram discussing the potential launch of a league in the country during a recent visit to Riyadh.
