Saudi Arabia Enforces National Dress Code For Public School Students

In a significant move to strengthen national identity, the Saudi Ministry of Education has approved a mandatory uniform policy for students across all public schools in the Kingdom. This initiative aligns with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030, aiming to instill cultural pride among the youth.

Boys' Uniform Guidelines

  • Kindergarten: White shirt (long or short sleeves), long beige pants with an elastic waistband, and a thobe.
  • Elementary: Thobe, shemagh or ghutra, and an optional agal.
  • Intermediate: Thobe, shemagh or ghutra, and an optional agal.
  • Secondary:
    • Saudi students: Thobe, ghutra or shemagh, and an optional agal.
    • Non-Saudi students: Thobe; head coverings are optional.

Girls' Uniform Guidelines

  • Kindergarten: White shirt (long or short sleeves), long beige pants with an elastic waistband, and a beige apron covering the knees.
  • Elementary: Pink apron and white blouse.
  • Intermediate: Olive green skirt and white blouse.
  • Secondary: Navy blue skirt and white blouse.

Sports Uniform Across All Levels

  • Elementary: White shirt (long or short sleeves) and long navy blue sweatpants.
  • Intermediate: White shirt (long or short sleeves) and long olive green sweatpants.
  • Secondary: White shirt (long or short sleeves) and long black sweatpants.

Implementation and Awareness

The Ministry has announced awareness campaigns targeting students and parents to emphasize the importance of the new dress code in fostering national pride and unity. These campaigns aim to ensure a smooth transition and widespread acceptance of the policy.
