Overview of the New Traffic Law Amendment
Saudi Arabia recently introduced an important amendment to its Traffic Law during a Cabinet session chaired by King Salman, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The modification emphasizes the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring road safety and regulatory compliance.
Changes to Article 71
As part of the amendment, Article 71 of the Traffic Law has been removed. Previously, this article imposed a fine of 100 riyals per year, up to a maximum of 300 riyals, for failing to renew a driver’s license or vehicle registration (Istimara). The fines were applicable after a grace period of 60 days following the expiration of the documents.
Newly Introduced Traffic Violation
The amended law introduces a specific paragraph in the Traffic Violations Schedule, categorizing “Driving a vehicle on the roads with an expired vehicle registration” as a traffic violation. This change highlights the importance of renewing Istimara on time to avoid legal penalties.
Impact of the Amendment
These updates aim to enhance road safety and encourage timely compliance with registration rules. Vehicle owners are urged to renew their registrations promptly to avoid penalties and ensure the legality of their vehicles on Saudi roads.
