Saudi Arabia Cracks Down on Organized Begging: 14 Arrested in Riyadh for Exploiting 27 Children

Authorities Arrest 14 for Forcing Children into Begging in Riyadh

Saudi authorities have arrested 14 Yemeni nationals in Riyadh for exploiting 27 children in an organized begging operation. The suspects were found forcing children to beg in public streets and city squares, violating Saudi laws against human trafficking and child exploitation.

The arrests were part of a security crackdown led by Riyadh police, in collaboration with the General Department for Community Security and Combating Human Trafficking Crimes. Officials have confirmed that the detainees have been referred to the Public Prosecution after completing legal procedures.

Saudi Law Enforces Strict Penalties Against Begging

Saudi Arabia enforces strict laws to combat organized begging, considering it a criminal offense with severe penalties. Under the Anti-Begging Law, individuals convicted of managing, facilitating, or participating in begging operations face:

  • ✔️ Up to one year in prison
  • ✔️ A fine of SR100,000 ($26,660)

Additionally, those who aid or abet begging may be sentenced to:

  • ✔️ Six months in jail
  • ✔️ A fine of up to SR50,000 ($13,330)
  • ✔️ Or both penalties combined

Deportation for Non-Saudi Offenders

Non-Saudis convicted of begging-related offenses are subject to deportation after completing their sentence and paying fines. They also face a ban on returning to the Kingdom for work. However, exemptions apply to non-Saudi spouses and children of Saudi nationals.

Child Protection Measures in Place

Authorities have confirmed that they are working with relevant agencies to ensure that the 27 exploited children receive proper care and support. Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize child welfare and remains committed to eradicating human trafficking and illegal begging networks.

By enforcing strict legal actions, the Kingdom aims to eliminate organized begging and protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
