Saudi Arabia Calls On Muslims To View Crescent Moon During Ramadan 2023
Category: Ramadan

On Sunday, the Saudi Supreme Court urged Muslims throughout the Kingdom to sight the crescent moon of Ramadan on Tuesday evening, state news agency (SPA) reported.

If you see a crescent moon, either naked eye or through binoculars, you should report to the nearest court and register your testimony, or contact the nearest relevant department for directions.

It is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which has 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. The sighting of the crescent moon signals the beginning of Ramadan.

In the month of Ramadan, more than 1.5 billion Muslims will abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and having marital relations from dawn to sunset. Additionally, they try to avoid evil thoughts and deeds. One of the five pillars of Islam is fasting during Ramadan.

During Ramadan, Muslims believe the Holy Quran was revealed to their Prophet Mohammed.

In some Arab countries, Ramadan is expected to begin on Thursday, March 23. According to the International Astronomical Centre, the crescent of Ramadan will be visible on Wednesday, March 22, and Thursday, March 23, will be the first day of Ramadan in some Arab countries. According to the Emirates Astronomical Society, Ramadan 2023 will begin on March 23 and Eid Al Fitr will begin on Friday, April 21.
