Saudi Arabia Arrests 22,000 Plus In Major Security Crackdown Targeting Residency, Border, And Labor Law Violators

A total of 22,373 individuals were arrested in Saudi Arabia during a week-long security sweep, announced by the Ministry of Interior. The coordinated raids, conducted between September 5 and September 11, involved multiple government agencies.
Violations by Law Category
The arrested individuals faced violations across three major areas:
- Residency Law Violations: 14,216 individuals
- Border Security Law Violations: 4,943 individuals
- Labor Law Infractions: 3,214 individuals
Border Crossers and Nationalities Involved
In addition, 1,507 individuals were detained while attempting to cross into Saudi Arabia illegally. Of these, 46% were Yemeni nationals and 53% were Ethiopian nationals.
Crackdown on Illegal Transport and Employment
As part of the raids, seven individuals were arrested for their involvement in the illegal transportation, sheltering, and employment of violators.
Ongoing Legal Processes and Deportation
Currently, 15,536 expatriates 14,203 men and 1,333 women are undergoing legal proceedings. Of these:
- 6,395 have been referred to their embassies for travel documents.
- 2,030 are in the process of making travel reservations.
- 13,475 have been deported so far.
Severe Penalties for Aiding Illegal Immigration
The Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning that those found guilty of facilitating illegal immigration could face harsh penalties. These include:
- Up to 15 years in prison
- Fines of up to SR 1 million
- Confiscation of vehicles and properties used in illegal activities
