Saudi authorities have arrested 37 individuals, including high-ranking ministry officials, for their alleged involvement in illegal activities linked to the trade of restricted substances in the Hail and Riyadh regions. The crackdown highlights the kingdom’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and threats to national security.
Officials and Foreign Nationals Among Those Arrested
An official source at the Ministry of Interior confirmed that six government employees were involved, including representatives from the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of the National Guard, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Health. These individuals were detained along with:
- 28 Saudi nationals
- 5 Syrian nationals
- 2 Ethiopian border security violators
- 1 Yemeni national
- 1 expatriate of Yemeni origin
Illegal Drug Network Uncovered
Investigations revealed that the accused were operating unauthorized networks dealing in the purchase and sale of medically regulated and restricted substances. Authorities confirmed the group’s activities were in clear violation of Saudi drug control laws.
Swift Legal Action Taken
Thanks to intelligence and surveillance operations, the Ministry of Interior acted swiftly and referred all 37 individuals to the Public Prosecution after completing necessary legal procedures.
