Saudi Arabia and India Sign Mutual Short-Stay Visa Exemption Agreement
Saudi Arabia and India have officially agreed to a mutual short-stay visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, and official passports, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral ties and easing official travel between the two nations.
Visa-Free Travel for Diplomatic and Official Passport Holders
Under the new agreement, eligible passport holders from both countries will be exempt from short-stay visa requirements, facilitating smoother diplomatic engagement and official visits. The move reflects growing cooperation between Riyadh and New Delhi across political, economic, and strategic sectors.
Agreement Signed in Riyadh
The agreement was signed on behalf of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Protocol Affairs Abdulmajeed Al-Smari. Representing India, Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan signed the agreement during an official ceremony held in Riyadh on Wednesday.
Strengthening Saudi–India Bilateral Relations
This visa exemption agreement highlights the strong and evolving relationship between Saudi Arabia and India, particularly in diplomacy, trade, and people-to-people connections. The two countries have steadily expanded cooperation through high-level visits and joint initiatives, as reflected in broader Saudi Arabia international relations.
Facilitating Official Cooperation and Dialogue
By easing travel requirements, the agreement is expected to enhance diplomatic coordination, encourage institutional collaboration, and support joint efforts on regional and global issues. It also complements ongoing initiatives aimed at improving cross-border mobility and official engagement.
Part of Broader Diplomatic Engagement
The move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader diplomatic strategy to strengthen partnerships with key global players, including India, which is one of the Kingdom’s most important economic and strategic partners. Similar agreements reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to expanding cooperation under its evolving foreign policy framework.
