OFWs In Saudi Arabia Who Are Unpaid Are Warned: Don’t Accept Offers Of Help
Category: Expats

Filipino workers with unpaid salaries from Saudi Arabian employers have been warned not to deal with anyone, even within the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), offering to mediate on their behalf. In addition to Susan Ople, only Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac is authorized to transact with claimants.

A middle-man transaction is not authorized as it may affect displaced OFWs (overseas Filipino workers). OFW claimants have reported that people have offered help and mediation to them.

As of yet, Opple said no details have been provided on how the payment will be made following the bilateral talks between Ferdinand R Marcos Jr. and the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who pledged that the Saudi government would support wage claims of some 10,000 OFWs who were displaced after several Riyadh-based construction firms declared bankruptcy in 2015.

It's not true if someone approaches them claiming to help them get their wages immediately, or if someone asks for their contact details and informs them about the developments. For the unpaid salaries of OFWs employed by Saudi Oger Ltd., Mohammad Al Mojil Group, and other construction firms, the prince committed about 2 billion riyals. According to records, there are 8,829 claimants from Saudi Oger and 3,454 from Mohammad Al Mojil. DMW employees involved in corruption and other scams will not be tolerated, according to Ople.

In addition, she warned claimants and their families to report anyone pretending to be DMW staff or assisting them in obtaining the claims, whether that be online, to take screenshots, or even through telephone calls. An offender who is indeed a DMW scammer will face dismissal from the service and cybercrime measures, Ople said.
