The Head of the Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques announced that the Grand Mosque's Mataf Expansion Building Project has been renamed Saudi Portico. This expansion includes a wider area surrounding the Abbasid portico, offering enhanced capacity for worshipers and performers of tawaf.
The Saudi portico comprises four floors, namely the ground floor, first floor, second-floor mezzanine, and roof. It can accommodate up to 287,000 worshipers and 107,000 performers of tawaf per hour.
The expansion of the portico has been a continuous project initiated by King Abdul Aziz and continued by subsequent rulers such as King Saud, King Faisal, King Khalid, King Fahd, King Abdullah, and the current Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman.
The Saudi portico is designed to provide spacious areas for pilgrims and worshipers, adhering to high-quality engineering standards. It offers various technical services, sound systems, and lighting arrangements to create a spiritually uplifting environment for the pilgrims.
