The council of the cooperative societies has signed agreements with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development to establish 135 new cooperative societies in Makkah.
The agreements were signed at King Faisal Center for conferences at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah in the presence of senior officials from the ministry.
The signing ceremony was also attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.
The new societies will focus on 11 specialties consisting of the artificial intelligence, cyber security, energy, tourism, health, housing, education, industry, marketing, digital media and public relations.
The council’s chairman, Abdullah Bin Kidman, has said the council is planning to increase the number of the cooperative societies from 243 to 2,000 by 2030.
“The council is also endeavoring to spread the culture of the cooperative work and promote the cooperative sector to achieve quality,” he added. Kidman appreciated the support being extended to the societies by the ministry and said it has been reinforcing the sector in various fields.
“The ministry’s support to the council is consistent and unlimited so as to expand the cooperative work and spread it among the citizens,” he said.
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture presented a working paper on the cooperative societies while the Ministry of Housing presented a paper on the developmental housing, Kidman said during the ceremony.
“The council is cooperating with a number of sectors and programs to achieve its goals toward the building cooperative societies all over the country,” he said.
