According to local media, Saudi Arabia's decision to open its airspace for all air carriers is not a sign of other steps to come.

Mohammed Al Atiq, the Charge d'Affaires at Saudi Arabia's permanent UN delegation, said that the decision to allow all airlines use Saudi airspace is in line with Saudi Arabia's international obligations.

In his remarks, Al Ateeq reaffirmed Saudi Arabia's stance on the Palestine issue, saying the Kingdom would continue to support the Palestinian people despite the opening of its airspace.

As a sign of Saudi Arabia's commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, Al Ateeq stressed the need to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli dispute.

Saudi Arabia announced earlier this month that it would open its airspace to all air carriers, allowing more flights to and from Israel.

In accordance with international conventions, the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said the country's airspace is now open to all carriers meeting its requirements for overflights.

GACA said the decision will enhance international air connectivity and consolidate the kingdom's position as a global hub connecting three continents.
