A Skill-based Recruitment System Will Be Launched In Saudi Arabia To Recruit Foreign Manpower
Category: Saudi Arabia

For the new recruitment system based on skills, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has proposed three patterns. In order to improve the Saudi work visa system, the ministry recently conducted a study on these patterns.

To enhance productivity and innovation in the Kingdom, the proposed patterns were classified into high, medium, and low categories.

In addition to international comparisons with a context similar to the proposed pattern in the Kingdom, the study considered recommendations regarding the proposed patterns. Additionally, the study included a comprehensive analysis of the current situation, detailed data, and all the pivotal aspects of the new recruitment system.

Outputs of the study included an implementation plan, detailed project charters, an operational model, and key performance indicators.

As part of a scheme to attract more skilled foreign workers, the ministry launched the Skill Verification Program (SVP) last year. Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh were the first countries to launch the external track of the program.

In the first phase, skill testing was conducted on five professions: plumber, electrician, welder, refrigeration/air conditioning technician, and automobile electrician.

The Saudi skilled workers' program was first used by Pakistan. SVP was launched in Pakistan last September, followed by India and Bangladesh.

According to the SVP, the first phase focuses on verifying the skills of workers in five specializations out of 23 specializations targeted by the ministry, so as to improve the quality of professional manpower on the Saudi labor market, raise professional standards, increase productivity, and reduce the number of unqualified workers entering the Kingdom.
