According to a Saudi newspaper, a court has ordered a man to pay dowry to his ex-wife 33 years after they married.
A Saudi woman had filed a lawsuit at a personal status court claiming that she had married 33 years ago, had five children, and had recently ended her marriage without having received her dowry of SR50,000, Okaz said.
According to the woman, her ex-husband was a stock dealer and needed the money for his business, but he did not fulfill his promise to pay her the dowry.
He got divorced after he married another woman, she said.
At a court hearing, the man denied the woman's claim that she did not receive her dowry, citing her silence about the issue for 33 years. According to him, the suit was filed because of his remarriage.
In the report, the court ruled that the woman deserved the dowry stipulated in the marriage contract and ordered the man to pay it.
A court of appeals ratified the verdict, making it final.
