Customs officers at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah have successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of heroin and opium by a passenger. The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) reported that over 1.3 kilograms of heroin and 41.7 grams of opium were discreetly hidden within the bowels of the individual entering Saudi Arabia.
Following the seizure, ZATCA collaborated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) to apprehend those involved in receiving the narcotics within the Kingdom. This joint operation led to the successful arrest of two suspects.
Incidents like these underscore the crucial role of customs authorities and law enforcement agencies in safeguarding the nation's security and protecting society from the harms of illicit substances. The commitment to combating drug trafficking remains steadfast, with a focus on disrupting networks and holding perpetrators accountable.
Saudi Arabia maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards drug smuggling and continues to implement stringent measures to detect and deter such criminal activities. The collaboration between ZATCA and GDNC demonstrates the dedication to maintaining a safe and drug-free environment for all residents and visitors.
