Four children from an expatriate family in Saudi Arabia tragically drowned when their car was swept away by floods caused by heavy rains in the Mecca region. The vehicle, carrying their family of eight, was caught in a torrent in eastern Mecca and rammed into a wall, resulting in the tragic deaths.
Family Tragedy in Mecca's Floodwaters
The Arab expatriate family included the parents and six children. Civil defense teams managed to rescue the parents and two of their children, aged 13 and two years old. Unfortunately, the remaining four children, including three girls and a boy, were swept away by the floodwaters. The bodies of the three girls were recovered, while the search continues for the boy.
Weather Warnings Across Saudi Arabia
The Mecca region has been hit by torrential rains and thunderstorms earlier this week. Severe weather, including heavy rains and strong winds, is expected to continue in several parts of Saudi Arabia, including Mecca, Al Jouf, H’ail, Medina, Asir, and Jazan, according to the Saudi National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
More Fatalities in the Mecca Region
In another tragic incident, two young men drowned at a rain-hit picnic spot in Al Lith, part of the Mecca region. One man jumped into the waterfalls in the area, and the other attempted to rescue him, but both lost their lives. Their bodies were later retrieved.
Weather Forecast and Advisory
The NCM forecasted thunderstorms and rainfall, coupled with strong winds, lowering visibility in the Mecca region until Wednesday. Officials also warned of rain in other parts of the kingdom until Sunday.
