A decision by the Transport General Authority (TGA) to require taxi drivers to wear uniforms came into effect on Tuesday, July 12. Violations of uniform regulations will result in fines.
Drivers of public taxis, taxi routing services, guided vehicles, and taxi intermediaries will be required to wear uniforms. Following the provisions of the regulations governing taxis and taxi intermediaries, wearing uniforms will be considered as a main requirement for practicing these activities.
Public taxi drivers, airport taxi drivers, family taxi drivers, passenger transport app drivers, and private taxi drivers will all be required to wear the designated uniforms.
Wearing the uniform contributes to the authority's development efforts and improves the quality of transportation services, according to the authority.
By requiring drivers to wear uniforms, the TGA aims to standardize and improve their appearance, to improve the quality of services, and to improve the beneficiaries' experience.
Moreover, the authority confirmed that its decision is part of a systematic and continuous process of updating and improving the activities and services of public taxis and passenger transport apps.
Passengers who observe taxi drivers or drivers of passenger transport apps not following uniform regulations can lodge a complaint by calling the unified phone number 19929.
