The Saudi Supreme Court has called on all Muslims who are interested in crescent sighting to participate in committees formed in various regions for the purpose of looking for the Shawwal crescent on Thursday. This act of cooperation in righteousness and piety, seeking reward from God, would benefit all Muslims.
If the crescent is sighted with the naked eye or through binoculars, the Supreme Court urges individuals to inform their nearest court or contact the nearest town center to register their testimony. The Saudi astronomical observatories, along with dozens of telescopes and hundreds of astronomy enthusiasts, have already made all necessary preparations for the new moon of Shawwal.
The holy month of Ramadan began in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states on March 23, following the completion of 30 days of Sha’ban. The Supreme Court previously declared that the crescent of Ramadan had not been testified by anyone, and therefore March 22 would be the 30th day of Sha’ban, while March 23 would be the first day of Ramadan, according to the Umm Al-Qura Calendar.
