The Saudi Ministry of Interior has released a set of strict guidelines governing the handling, display, and treatment of the national flag to ensure it is always treated with the utmost respect.
Key Directives on National Flag Usage
Prohibition of Worn or Damaged Flags
The ministry mandates that faded, torn, or damaged flags should not be displayed. Any obsolete or worn-out flags must be disposed of properly by the responsible entity.
Commercial and Improper Use Restrictions
The national flag cannot be used for commercial purposes, trademarks, or promotional materials. Additionally, it is strictly forbidden to print or place the flag on animals, tie it to objects, or use it for carrying items.
Proper Display and Handling
- The flag must be displayed in a manner that allows it to move naturally and stand freely on the mast.
- It should never be tied or fixed in a way that restricts movement.
- The flag must not be raised upside down under any circumstances.
- The flag should never touch the ground, water, or any surface that may cause damage.
Restrictions on Additional Markings
No slogans, images, or phrases may be added to the national flag. The only permitted emblem is the official symbol of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques two crossed swords topped by a palm tree, placed near the lower corner by the flagpole.
