The Roads General Authority (RGA) of Saudi Arabia has clarified the approved fonts for guidance signs in the updated Saudi Highway Code. The Naskh font is to be used for all guidance signs across the Kingdom, except in the Madinah region where the Madinah font is approved. English text will be written in the Transport font.

Saudi Highway Code Overview

Launched by the RGA, the Saudi Highway Code aims to unify road policies and regulations for both government and private entities. It seeks to standardize the design and implementation of road signs, enhancing the consistency and readability of guidance signs across the country.

Font Guidelines for Guidance Signs

According to the updated code:

  • The Naskh font is used for all Arabic text on road guidance signs throughout Saudi Arabia.
  • In the Madinah region, the Madinah font is the approved font for Arabic text, reflecting the cultural significance of the area.
  • For English text, the Transport font is utilized across all guidance signs.

Timeline for Implementation

The Saudi Highway Code is currently in a guideline phase, allowing both government and private entities time to adjust to the new standards. The key dates are:

  • From January 2025, government entities will be required to follow the font guidelines for all new road projects.
  • Private entities will be expected to comply starting June 1, 2025.

Enhancing Road Safety and Navigation

The unification of fonts aims to improve the clarity and readability of road signs, ensuring that drivers can navigate safely and efficiently. Consistent font usage, especially for guidance signs, plays a crucial role in reducing confusion and enhancing road safety.
