Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension of new short-term visas for citizens of 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, Yemen, Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Sudan, Bangladesh, and Libya, effective April 13, 2025. This measure aims to manage overcrowding and logistical challenges during the upcoming Hajj season. However, Saudi Jawazat has denied issuing any such circular. Umrah visa holders with valid visas can enter the Kingdom until April 13 but must depart no later than April 29, according to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
Background and Rationale
The decision follows congestion issues during the previous Hajj season, where many worshippers overstayed their visas by entering the Kingdom on non-pilgrimage visas. This suspension aims to improve arrival coordination and ensure a more organized and safe Hajj pilgrimage. Egypt's Chamber of Tourism Companies member, Basil Al Sisi, noted that authorities identified countries contributing to last year's crisis and are implementing measures based on those insights.
New Guidelines for Umrah Pilgrimage
Saudi officials have also introduced new guidelines for the Umrah pilgrimage. The issuance of Umrah visas starts on the 14th of Dhu Al Hijjah and ends on the 1st of Shawwal. Pilgrims can enter the Kingdom from Dhu Al Hijjah 14 until Shawwal 15 but must depart by the 1st of Dhu Al Qa'dah. Non-compliance with visa regulations may lead to legal consequences. These updates come as part of the broader effort to regulate pilgrimage flow and ensure safety for all visitors.
