Privatizing Airport Management by 2025
Saudi Arabia will open the management of four airports to the private sector starting in 2025, Minister of Investment Khalid Al Falih announced at the Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh.
Strengthening Saudi Logistics Infrastructure
Speaking at the event, Al Falih highlighted Saudi Arabia's commitment to expanding logistics capabilities and positioning itself as a global leader in green energy.
He emphasized the importance of Saudi Arabia's strategic location at the crossroads of East-West and North-South trade routes, aiming to strengthen regional supply chain networks.
Regional Cooperation and the Gulf Railway Grid
Al Falih pointed to the potential for stronger maritime ties with Egypt, the UAE, and Oman. He also underscored the Gulf Railway Grid as a key element for regional logistics integration.
He noted that Saudi Arabia's 30 ports currently account for 80% of regional transportation, a number expected to rise as demand increases and clean energy initiatives expand.
The Global Logistics Forum and Key Discussions
The Global Logistics Forum, held under the patronage of King Salman, aims to address challenges and opportunities in the logistics sector.
The three-day event features sessions on global trade, sustainable technologies, and infrastructure investments, with 120 speakers including ministers and industry leaders.
Forum Agreements and Maritime Cooperation
Discussions focus on sustainability, trade flexibility, and technology-driven transformation. The event also includes agreements such as a memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Ministry of Transport and Logistics and Egypt's Ministry of Transport to enhance maritime cooperation.
