Riyadh schools will suspend in-person classes on Monday after education authorities announced a shift to online learning due to a weather alert issued by the National Center for Meteorology. Remote Learning Announced for All Riyadh Schools
According to the official announcement, all public and private schools in Riyadh city and its affiliated governorates will conduct classes remotely on Monday. The decision applies to students as well as teaching and administrative staff.
Governorates included in the suspension of in-person learning are:
- Al-Majmaah
- Al-Ghat
- Al-Zulfi
- Al-Dawadmi
- Al-Quwayiyah
- Afif
- Shaqra
Classes will be delivered through the Madrasati platform and other approved educational systems used across Saudi Arabia.
Weather Alert Issued by National Center for Meteorology
The decision follows warnings from the National Center for Meteorology, which forecast increased chances of rainfall of varying intensity across most regions of Saudi Arabia until Thursday. Similar weather alerts have been issued previously, including recent warnings about heavy rain and flash floods in multiple regions.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that the weather system may include:
- Strong downdraft winds exceeding 60 km/h
- Hailstorms in some areas
- High sea waves along coastal regions
- Possible flash floods in low-lying locations
Other Regions Also Suspend In-Person Classes
Education departments in several other regions have also announced the suspension of in-person learning on Monday. These regions include:
- Eastern Province
- Hafar Al-Batin
- Qassim
- Al-Ahsa
- Al-Baha
Authorities across these regions cited student and staff safety as the primary reason for converting traditional classroom learning into remote instruction, a measure frequently adopted during severe weather conditions, as seen in previous school closures due to adverse weather.
