Prosecution Warns Against Disclosure Of Sensitive Data, Announces Monetary Penalties

In Saudi Arabia, the Public Prosecution warned against disclosing or publishing any sensitive data in public, with the intention of harming the data owner or improving one's own position.

The Personal Data Protection law of Saudi Arabia stipulates that anyone who discloses or publishes sensitive data with the intention of harming the data owner or gaining personal benefit will be punished with up to 2 years in jail and a fine of up to 3 million Riyals.

An individual's ethnic or tribal origin, religious, intellectual, or political beliefs, or his membership in associations or civil institutions are all sensitive topics according to the Public Prosecution.

In addition, it may include criminal and security data as well as data that determines identity, such as genetic, credit, or health data, as well as data that indicates that the individual is unknown to either party.

The Personal Data Protection law provides a legal mechanism to protect individuals and organizations from any kind of violation, infringement, or disclosure of their personal data.

What is Public Prosecution in Saudi Arabia?

In addition to supporting the abused, the Public Prosecution protects society, rights, and freedoms by punishing the abused, in accordance with Islamic law and established rules, while also dedicating and promoting them by cooperating with judicial and security bodies.
