Col. Talal Al-Shalhoub, the security spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, has issued a cautionary statement regarding the documentation and dissemination of crimes, emphasizing that such actions are in violation of the Anti-Cybercrime Law.

During an interview with the “Saudi Street” program on Saudi Television channel, conducted on the sidelines of the Ministry of Interior’s participation in the recently concluded World Defense Show 2024, Col. Al-Shalhoub stressed the importance of not responding to crimes with further illegal activities, stating, “Prevention is safety, and photographing and publishing crimes constitutes cybercrime.”

Addressing the Saudi community, Col. Al-Shalhoub emphasized the necessity of reporting witnessed crimes or incidents to the security authorities and urged individuals to notify the Security Operations Center at 911. He underscored that sharing such documentation on social media platforms could lead to legal ramifications, including charges of defamation.

Furthermore, Col. Al-Shalhoub clarified that documentation encompasses not only photography but also sharing recordings from security surveillance cameras installed in various locations such as stores and markets. Violations of the Security Surveillance Camera Law will incur penalties, in addition to those outlined in other relevant legislation. It's important to note that cybercrime encompasses any activity involving computers or information networks that contravenes the provisions of the Anti-Cybercrime Law.
