Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman inaugurated on Wednesday evening King Salman International Convention Center in Madinah.
Upon arrival at the venue, the King was received by Madinah Emir Prince Faisal Bin Salman, Deputy Emir Prince Saud Bin Khaled Al-Faisal, Minister of Interior Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Saud Bin Naif, Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Jadaan and other senior civil and military officials.
The King toured the center, where he watched a replica of the center and was briefed on the project by Al-Jadaan.
The monarch also listened to a presentation about the main auditorium and watched a display about King Abdulaziz Endowment Libraries Complex Project that hosts rare collections of manuscripts, some which are dated back to over 1,000 years ago, including a manuscript copy of the Holy Qur’an.
Al-Jadaan said the center was built on a total area covering 91,000 square meters. It's has the main auditorium with a capacity for 2,500 people and three multi-purpose halls, each with a capacity for 500 people.
The center, located 6 km from the Prophet’s Mosque and 9 km from the airport, consists of several other facilities including meeting halls, media center, administrative and technical facilities.
Also, on Wednesday night King Salman attended a grand reception party at the emir’s palace hosted by the dignitaries and notables of Madinah to welcome and celebrate the monarch’s visit to the region.
The King also launched a number of key water, electricity and health projects. These include the third phase of the desalination and electricity power plants in Yanbu, and the Madinah -Yanbu water transportation projects, costing a total of over SR21 billion.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdurahman Al-Fadli said that the project will supply an additional 550,000 cubic meters of water daily through six production units and more than 3,000 megawatts of electricity through five power units. The water transportation project includes setting up of 603 km long pipelines and tanks with a capacity of over one million cubic meters in addition to pumping stations.
The King also announced conversion of the 300-bed New Meeqat Hospital to King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC). Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah said that the new KFSH&RC in Madinah would bring about a qualitative leap in the health care facilities and services being offered in the region.
