Saudi Arabia's Public Prosecution confirmed that children must not be employed before their 15th birthday, based on the Child Protection Law and Labor Law, on International Day Against Child Labor.
The Public Prosecution posted an article from the Child Protection Law which states that, without prejudice to what is stated in the Saudi Labor Law, it is prohibited to employ a child before he reaches the age of 15.
Additionally, the Law stipulates that it is prohibited to assign him to work that may harm his safety or physical or psychological health, or to use him in military actions or armed conflicts.
Saudi Labor Law prohibits employment and entry into workplaces for persons under 15 years of age. According to the law, the competent minister may raise the age of certain categories of juveniles, so that persons aged between 13 and 15 years may work in light work.
The World Day Against Child Labor is a day created by the International Labor Organization to draw attention to the extent of the issue of child labor around the globe, and to strengthen efforts to eliminate it. Every year since 2002, this celebration has been held in June.
