"My iqama is expired months ago, is there any fine after the expiry date, if yes how much it will be?" This is a common question asked by expatriates in Saudi Arabia. The following information clarifies the fines imposed by Saudi law for delayed iqama renewal.
Penalties for Iqama Renewal After Expiry
According to Saudi Immigration law, if an iqama (Residence Permit) is not renewed before its expiry, the following fines apply:
- First-time Delay: A fine of 500 Saudi Riyals is charged for renewing an expired iqama.
- Grace Period: There is no fine if the iqama is renewed within 3 days of its expiry. You can renew your iqama during this grace period without paying any extra cost.
- After 3 Days: Once the grace period passes, a 500 riyal fine is charged during the renewal, regardless of how many days or months the iqama is overdue.
Penalties for Repeated Iqama Renewal Delays
If the iqama renewal is delayed again after the first offense, the fine increases:
- Second-time Delay: The fine doubles to 1000 riyals for repeated delays in renewing the iqama.
If someone has already paid the 500 riyal fine and delays the renewal a second time, the penalty will rise to 1000 riyals.
Importance of Renewing Iqama on Time
Expatriates in Saudi Arabia must ensure timely iqama renewal. This responsibility usually lies with the employer or sponsor, but individuals should keep track of their iqama expiration to avoid fines.
