The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development clarified who will be responsible for paying for renewing the expat worker's work permit and residence permit (iqama), after they transfer their services.

According to the Ministry's official Twitter account, following the service transfer of an expat worker, the new employer is responsible for the renewal fee of the work permit and for any fines associated with the delay.

This was in response to a tweet from the Ministry asking, I have a worker whose sponsorship was transferred and he won a case against the previous company.

He went on to state that when I wanted to renew the iqama and work permit of an expat worker, I was surprised that the work permit owed 18,000 riyals from the previous employer and I could not renew his iqama or issue a work permit for him. Is it reasonable for me to bear the mistake and negligence of the company?

The Human Resources Ministry has clarified that expat workers can request a transfer within the same company.

If the transfer procedure is not completed in Jawazat within 15 days, the beneficiary can request a service transfer of the expat worker only twice.
