A lawyer has revealed that racial remarks may now result in prison terms of up to three years and fines of up to SR100,000. The kingdom is overhauling its justice system as part of the reforms.
Saudi TV Al Ekhbariya reporter Nayaf Al Mansi, lawyer and legal counsellor, said the new penal system will include an independent penalty against racism, hate speech, and incitement to them, up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of SR100,000.
A racial crime can result from the use of terms that imply racism, such as "naturalised", "black", "slave" or "remains of pilgrims".
Racism, hate speech, ethnicity discrimination, and nationalism discrimination are all expected to be criminalized by Saudi Arabia's new penal code.
