Saudi Arabia has introduced compensation rules for domestic pilgrims participating in the annual Hajj pilgrimage, ensuring their rights in case of accommodation contract violations by service providers.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has outlined a compensation framework where pilgrims facing accommodation delays exceeding two hours in Mecca or other sacred sites will receive 10% of the reserved accommodation package value.

Repeated violations could lead to stricter penalties, up to 15% of the package value, and in cases of complete failure to provide housing, the ministry will step in with the costs borne by the responsible company.

In instances where accommodation is provided within two hours but doesn't meet contractual standards, pilgrims are entitled to 5% compensation.

This scheme extends to delays in providing tents at holy sites, with affected pilgrims eligible for compensation or alternative arrangements under ministry supervision.

Complaints regarding delays or contractual breaches may lead to compensation ranging from 2% to 10% of the package value, with set minimum amounts to ensure fair treatment.

Saudi Arabia has also opened e-registration for citizens and foreign Muslims for the upcoming Hajj, offering various packages priced from SR4,099 to SR13,265 with installment payment options.

Last year, 1.8 million pilgrims performed Hajj, signaling a return to pre-pandemic levels, reaffirming its status as an obligatory Islamic duty for Muslims worldwide.
