Except In Mosques And Government Offices, Men Wearing Shorts Is Not Against Public Decorum
Category: Saudi Arabia

A new amendment to Saudi Arabia's schedule of public decency violations reveals that men wearing shorts in public won't be considered a violation unless they wear them in mosques and government offices.

In a recent ministerial decision, Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz Bin Saud Bin Naif called for the modification of public decorum regulations as per Article 7 and 9 of the regulations.

As part of amending the regulations, the minister approved the addition of a new violation to the classification of public decorum violations, bringing the total to 20 violations, up from 19.

If anyone wears shorts only in mosques and government offices, they will have to pay a fine of SR250-500.

On Nov. 2, 2019, the public decorum regulation came into force. According to the minister of interior, 19 violations of the law are punishable by fines of SR50 to SR6,000, and that was before the latest amendment.
