The universities in the Kingdom will be able to formulate their own rules of conduct and discipline within 15 days of approving the new university regulations. With the start of the new academic year, new regulations regarding study and examinations will be implemented that specify the division of semesters and the number of weeks of study.
Upon approval of the regulations, the university council is free to set the rules of student conduct and discipline at the university within 15 days.
Regulations stipulate that the academic year shall consist of two semesters or more, plus a summer semester, if any, or four or more levels plus one or two summer levels. Colleges and institutes under the university follow an academic system, whether it is a system of academic levels, semesters, or a full academic year.
The regulations stipulate that a semester would consist of no less than 15 weeks in the two-semester system, and not less than 12 weeks in the three-semester system. Registration, removal, and addition of classes, as well as final exams, are not included in this period.
Regulations stated that the academic level is a study method in which there are fewer weeks than a semester, so that the duration is not less than 4 weeks or more than 8 weeks, and the total number of academic weeks is not less than 40.
A full academic year consists of at least 40 weeks per year, according to the regulations. For the two-semester system, the summer semester is a period of no less than 8 weeks, whereas for the three-semester system, it is a period of no less than 6 weeks.
A summer level is a period of no less than four weeks for the academic level system, during which each academic course is given a double period of time.
