The Public Prosecution in Saudi Arabia has issued a stern warning, emphasizing that collecting cash or any form of donations at the holy sites of Makkah during the Hajj pilgrimage is strictly prohibited. Engaging in such practices, especially if they involve fraudulent means to unlawfully seize money, is considered a major crime that warrants immediate arrest.
According to the official Twitter account of the Saudi Public Prosecution, announcing or soliciting donations or cash without proper authorization from the competent authority is strictly forbidden. Violating this regulation carries criminal consequences and individuals will be held accountable.
Previously, the Public Prosecution had already cautioned against exploiting the Hajj pilgrimage for the purpose of begging, whether directly or indirectly, in public areas, private shops, through modern technology, or by any other means, as per the anti-begging law.
Anyone found engaging in begging, inciting others to beg, or facilitating begging activities in any way will face imprisonment for up to six months and a fine of 50,000 riyals. Moreover, if these actions are carried out as part of an organized group involved in begging, the penalty increases to a maximum imprisonment of one year and a fine of up to 100,000 riyals.
The Public Prosecution highlighted that repeat offenders would face double the penalties, not exceeding twice the maximum limit. Non-Saudis found guilty will be deported from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in accordance with the regulations and will be permanently banned from returning, except for Hajj and Umrah purposes.
Let us all uphold the sanctity of the Hajj pilgrimage and respect the laws set forth to ensure a safe and meaningful spiritual journey for all pilgrims.
