Working long hours without paying a worker's salary is considered forced labor and human trafficking, according to the Saudi National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

According to sources at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, this is true. Additionally, the source stated that forced labor and human trafficking include

* Nonpayment of wages and long hours worked by an employee.

* Threatening the worker with informing the authorities about some undesirable actions.

* In accordance with Saudi Labor Law, the worker must work without rest.

* It is not allowed for the workers to leave the workplace or to contact their families or friends except in rare cases.

* Keeping the worker's passport or other documents in the employer's custody.

All of the above practices are considered administrative violations. Employers who force workers to work under these circumstances are considered to be engaging in forced labor and suspected cases of human trafficking, which will be referred to the appropriate security authorities for investigation and legal action.

A number of efforts have been made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to combat human trafficking, based on human rights and its application of Islamic Shariah that respects human dignity.
